The Flood Volunteer Session is designed to teach you how to prepare and take actions before, during and after a flood. As we all know, recent storms have brought flooding to thousands of homes, leaving many families vulnerable across the UK. It's crucial to prepare communities against this threat.

In this online session  learn preparation strategies and actions during a flood. Don't assume it won't happen to you and be prepared beforehand.

The Flood Volunteer session aims to give participants an;

  1. Introduction to the hazard flooding may pose

  2. Understand who the key resilience partners within flooding are

  3. Understand what actions you as a community volunteer may want to consider and plan to carry out.

Seasons Prepared

Thursday 10 April 2025 6.00pm: Register with Communities Prepared

Being prepared is about thinking ahead and Communities Prepared want to encourage everyone to think this way, as this is how we will grow community resilience. Right now you might not feel it’s necessary to think about warmer sunnier weather, but soon enough our seasons will change and we could be faced with heatwaves, droughts and wildfires.

This session is for anyone who wants to get ahead and be prepared for the environmental challenges ahead. Perhaps you have experienced challenges in the spring and summer months before and want to be better prepared this time round.  Or maybe you are new to communities prepared and want to find out what’s coming up? Maybe you want a seasonal refresher?

Heatwave Awareness

Wednesday 16 April 2025, 6.00pm: Register with Communities Prepared

Wednesday 21 May 2025, 6.00pm: Register with Communities Prepared

Are you interested in finding out more about heatwaves? Are you worried about the increasing summer temperatures? Are you keen to understand more about what can be done to prepare for them? Join our Heatwave Awareness session!

If yes, then join the new heatwave awareness and preparedness session from Communities Prepared. The session will look at understanding what we mean by a heatwave, looking at how we currently understand the risk associated with heat and look at ways to be prepared for the summer months.

While we are all enjoying the arrival of spring and looking forward to some warmer weather, now is a good time to start thinking about the risks involved with heat and what you and your community can do to be more aware and prepared for the possible heatwaves to come, this summer and beyond.

Wildfire Volunteer Session

Wednesday 23 April 2025, 6.00pm: Register with Communities Prepared

Newly launched this year - this course will take you through understanding what wildfires are, how they develop, to knowing practical steps you and your communities can consider taking to reduce risk from wildfires and how to respond if a wildfire breaks out and threatens your community.

This course is based on the experience gained from community emergency volunteer groups in the UK and internationally who have dealt with various wildfire emergencies, along with experts from within the wildfire sector, and looks to follow standard operating procedures of lead responder agencies.
